Matthew 6:1-18 "A Right Way And A Wrong Way" Rev. Keith T. Reid

In this passage, Jesus is preaching against religious activity that is done for the praise of man rather than the praise and acceptance of God, He is preaching against false religious practice that is done with the wrong motivations. And, what we see Him teaching is that, in order to truly seek the approval and praise of God rather than men, we have to do what we do out of a genuine love for God and a desire to live for Him rather doing things to receive the praise and adulation of men. We must have the right motivations. To illustrate this point, Jesus uses the spiritual disciplines of giving, prayer, and fasting; and, in doing so, He teaches us that, in order to truly seek the approval of God rather than men, we must do each of these…and, indeed, we must do everything…with the right motives and for the right reasons.
