What we see in our passage today is that Nebuchadnezzar and his wise men had a fundamental misunderstanding of the things of God and how He truly works in the world and in the lives of individuals. They didn’t understand that it was God who had given Nebuchadnezzar the dream, and they didn’t understand that only God could reveal the mystery of what the dream was and what it meant. So, while this passage may just seem like an interesting story that is rather irrelevant to us today, it actually teaches us some important lessons about how we are to go about making sure that we are not ignorant of the things of God the way that Nebuchadnezzar and his cronies were.
