Jude wrote his letter to encourage the early Christians not to fall into the trap of these leaders’ teachings, and instead contend for the faith and engage in right activities that will nurture the entire congregation that in alignment with the teachings of the apostles. As we will see from our Scripture passage, there were three parts to this encouragement from Jude: in order to combat the false teachings and “contend for the faith,” Jude tells his readers to look inward at themselves, look outward to their fellow believers, but also to constantly guard themselves so as not to be enticed by the false doctrines.
